Derek Cockle

  • Profile
    Derek is a specialist Litigation and Dispute Resolution solicitor whose practice covers a wide range of commercial, property and Insolvency disputes in all Courts and Tribunals.

    He has undertaken various high value and high-profile cases with complicated legal and factual issues. With his experience he can get to the root of the problem quickly and evaluate the arguments most likely to find favour in a Court.

    Despite being a forceful litigator when needs demand, Derek prides himself as extremely approachable and client user friendly.

  • Background
    Derek qualified as a solicitor in 1988 and earned his wealth of experience working for many years in Central London and involved with a diverse range of cases and client’s before relocating back to his Surrey roots.
  • Achievements
    Derek has the courage of his convictions and backed his judgment on several occasion taking cases to appeal.  His sometimes creative and novel arguments to develop legal principles have been vindicated in the higher Courts, including most recently a barrister’s negligence case acting for the Claimant on a limitation issue that only, but eventually, succeeded in the Court of Appeal.  The opponent’s application to appeal to the Supreme Court was refused.

    Fundamentally, Derek understands that disputes are stressful and strives to support to every client to bring about the most profitable outcome with case hardened strategic acumen.

  • Personal
    Derek enjoys all sports and has proudly supported his children in their military and sporting achievements at county, national and international level in cricket and athletics.

    Having coached and managed his village colts cricket team for several years, his pursuits are more leisurely now as a spectator and a qualified cricket umpire, but mostly enjoys running with his two rescue dogs exploring the Surrey countryside.
